Bio
Since their formation in 2018, Brooklyn-based rock band Book/Spirit have always drawn from a variety of influences, merging the melancholy sounds of second-wave emo, the distorted romanticism of ’90s dreampop and shoegaze, the jagged slant of post-punk, and the improvisational aspects of krautrock and jam bands. They strike a delicate balance, their perfect storm of indie rock anachronism resulting in something timeless. Their omnivorous approach to music-making extends beyond just the left-of-center rock history grab bag they’re pulling from; co-lead singers and guitarists Pete Ferrari and Mike Susa share primary lyric-writing duties with their fellow band members Micah Evans (bass) and Garrett Troy (drums), jumping in to build songs from the ground up.
Even when their songs skew darker, headier, or more literary—and they often do—they remain as melodic and hook-based as ever. Book/Spirit melds their tried-and-true methods of hard-hitting rock songwriting with new experiments. Masters of cohesion, Book/Spirit bring together influences past and present with enthusiasm and ease, making them one of the city’s most exciting up-and-coming acts in indie rock.
